This seminar on the “Contribution of EU Research and Innovation to the UN’s SDGs” will be a timely exploration of the potential for synergies between the EU and UN as well and to further understanding of the contribution of science to the SDGs. It follows on from the very successful seminar organised by UCD, Agrifood, Food Safety and Nutrition - Framing the Priorities for FP9 which took place in the European Parliament on 28 February.
The seminar is also taking place against the backdrop of a number of significant developments at EU and UN level. The Declaration of the African Union - European Union Summit which took place in late 2017 highlighted the important of science and technology in resolving global societal challenges. In June 2018 the European Commission will publish its proposal for FP9, Horizon Europe. The UN will hold a number of high-level meetings in the run-up to the next General Assembly (UNGA 73) which will take place in New York in September 2018 and will review progress on the implementation of the SDGs.
This event will therefore be an important occasion on which to raise awareness of the role of science and the potential for synergies between UN and EU initiatives.
