back to list of events

As one of the main outcomes of the ES:GC2 conference held at the European Parliament in March 2013, there will be a focused fact-finding meeting in Washington, D.C. at the Holiday Inn Arlington on 20 September from 10:00-12:00 (noon) to kick-off the Transatlantic Science Forum (TSF). The objective of this kick-off meeting is to establish an agenda and priorities as well as identify mechanisms for the TSF to input during the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations.

The Transatlantic Science Forum (TSF), co-organized by ISC Intelligence in Science and Mr Seán Kelly, MEP, is a group dedicated to exploring the implications of science in the TTIP for transatlantic science collaboration.

Following the fact-finding meeting on 20 September, a high-level policy meeting will take place on 12 November at the European Parliament in Brussels to concretely discuss the themes established during the wide-ranging consultation. A similar high-level meeting will be held on 20-21 February, 2014 in Washington, D.C. On 12-13 March, 2014, there will be a meeting in Brussels to produce the TSF conclusions in preparation for the forum’s submission to TTIP in April 2014.

The TSF is a group dedicated to discussing how the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership can lead to further transatlantic science collaboration including:

·         Scientists and Representatives of Research & Academia

·         Members of the European Parliament

·         Parliamentarians of national Parliaments of EU Member States

·         Members of Congress

·         Representatives of Industry

·         Representatives of Stakeholder Organisations

This holistic approach is intended to build on the participation of research and science programs and to enhance the transatlantic collaboration in science, technology, research and innovation. Some of the topics that will be explored include, but are not limited to:

         ·         Transatlantic Health Challenges

         ·         Big data and ICT Research Infrastructure

         ·         Data Protection

         ·         Research Infrastructures and Capacity Building

         ·         Alzheimer’s Research Collaboration
